Qld: Cannons and bells to launch Queensland federation party

BRISBANE, Jan 1 AAP - The Centenary of Federation celebrations will be launched in
Brisbane today with a volley of cannon fire and a peal of bells.

Twelve hours after Brisbane's South Bank used fireworks to bring in the New Year, the
entertainment precinct's cultural forecourt will host the Federation Day Gun Salute.

Performed by five cannons, appropriately named Julius, Caesar, Marc, Antony and Brutus,
the salute will start at 1200 (AEST) and will involve the firing of seven shots.
